Guiding our Youth Towards Success

The individual evaluation process is designed to help youth focus and receive feedback on characteristic thinking patterns associated with future success. The evaluations allow youth to receive feedback on how they are progressing. This also provides a structured opportunity to learn to accept constructive criticism as a means of learning, which is also an important skill for success in the world. There are seven basic areas of focus in these evaluations:

POWER: Knowing how to influence and control others.

CONSTRUCTIVE

DESTRUCTIVE
(NEGATIVE)

 

knows personal strengths and weakness

positive participation and sportsmanship

accepts responsibility and learns from mistakes

sets positive goals and plans for success

inflated self image

must always win

refuses to admit mistakes

sets unrealistic goals and expects failure


EMPATHY: Knowing how someone else feels and how they see things.

CONSTRUCTIVE

sees needs of others and supports their successes

positive role model and healthy leadership

seeks out opinion of others and asks for help

participates actively and encourages others

shows concern for the welfare of others

exploits others for personal gain

influences others contrary to their best interests

does not place value on others as helpful resources

avoids participation and discourages others

exhibits no concern for others


LEARNING FROM PAST MISTAKES: Knowing when you are wrong and taking the consequences.

SELF-RESTRAINT: Knowing when you should and should not do things.

demonstrates patience and waits for appropriate time

balances healthy fun and serious work

excited and focused on healthy goals

 

fails to plan ahead and consider consequences

RESPONSIBILITY: Knowing what your actions do to other things and people.

accepts requests for change by authority figures

finishes responsibilities without delays or excuses

earns trust and demonstrates integrity

demonstrates dependability and keeps commitment

participates without constant intervention or redirection

puts responsibilities off and does not complete them

uncooperative and exhibits dishonesty

fails to keep commitments

must be consistently redirected to participate


EMOTIONS: Knowing how you feel and behaving according to how you feel.

keeps emotions in perspective

openly expresses positive feelings and thoughts

manages behavior and expresses feelings

PROBLEM-SOLVING: Knowing how to take care of problems.
